Open EmissionsMaking emissions data easy for everyone
It's too hard to quickly find and use accurate emissions data. Open Emissions aims to change that by scraping data directly from the UNFCCC, categorising it more usefully, and allowing users to view & export in any format.
Data Source
All of our emissions data is sourced directly from official Common Reporting Tables (CRTs) submitted by each of the UNFCCC's member countries. Most major countries submit one CRT per year. These tables offer the most comprehensive structured breakdown of national emissions and are our starting point.
We restructure the raw CRT data to be easier to search and understand. We apply custom 'Open Emissions categories' to the data that better reflect how most users think about emissions pools, and tag each emissions source with a 'type' indicating whether it came from fuel combustion, chemical processes, leakage (fugitives), or land & biomass.
Data is updated periodically as new country submissions become available through the UNFCCC's public site. For most countries, this occurs in mid-May each year.
